The term Habitat I refers to the first United Nations Conference on Human Settlements, in Vancouver, British Columbia in Canada, 31 May – 11 June 1976, which was convened by the United Nations as governments began to recognize the magnitude and consequences of rapid urbanization. The Mission of HABITAT WORLD is to contribute to the cultural, social evolution and economic growth of the civilisations by researching and developing a harmonious synthesis between nature - art - science - economics - in compliance with the psychophysical and ecosystem habitats'. The UN-Habitat Strategic Plan 2020-2023 includes four domains of change that guide all activities of the organization: 1) Reduced spatial inequality and poverty in communities across the urban-rural continuum; 2) Enhanced shared prosperity of cities and regions; 3) Strengthened climate action and improved urban environment; and 4) Effective urban crisis prevention and response.
